fabric-covered toilet paper rolls

I'm always looking for ways to use up my small scraps of fabric.
My daughter had been saving toilet paper rolls to use for a craft project some day.
I thought, why not put the two together and see what we can come up with?

So we got busy one day.
We cut the toilet paper rolls in half.
Then applied some Mod Podge onto the roll, placed some small fabric scraps to cover the roll and then applied another layer of Mod Podge on the top.

We set them aside to dry.

The next day I poked some holes in the top and threaded some baker's twine through
 creating a bunting of sorts.

It now adds a little pop of color to our fireplace!

sewing machine withdrawal

I have been without my sewing machine for close to two weeks now.
It is getting a much-needed tune-up but I am getting the itch to be sewing again!
Needless to say, I don't have anything new to show you although I did come across a picture of this pincushion I made for my cousin.  I again used this great sprocket pincushion tutorial by Cluck Cluck Sew.  It is such an easy project to whip up and I love that I uses up some of my little scraps!

Since I haven't been able to sew, I have been sorting through my fabric scraps and cutting pieces for a couple quilts that I have plans to make.  I guess we'll see when that happens because I have so many projects I would like to do.

And this wonderful fabric bundle has been calling my name as well!
So much to do but no sewing machine to do any of it.

petal power sundress

I had the opportunity to test a pattern for Wink Designs just a little before Christmas.
She has such cute patterns and I enjoyed testing this little sundress.
These will be great for my girls in the summer but work now in the winter with long-sleeve shirts and leggings!
This dress was quick and easy to make.
I have the fabric to make my oldest daughter one too but just haven't got around to that yet.

flannel pajama pants

I meant to get these pajama pants made before Christmas but it just didn't happen so the week after Christmas I took some time to get them made for my girls.  These were really quick and easy to make and cheap considering the flannel for the top pants was leftover flannel sheet from a quilt backing and the bottom pants were made using on-sale flannel from Joanns.

And, of course, I had to add my little tag!  :)  Maybe I should try make myself some too!

a new year

Wow!  It's been awhile since I stopped by here.
Happy New Year!  I hope your year is off to a great start!

We enjoyed the first week of the new year spending time with family and friends in Saskatchewan.
Now we are home and back to reality.

I have not been busy sewing...instead I've been busy trying to get some order to all my loose recipes.  Quite the job!  I also tried my hand at making soap, which I found to be quite fun!  While I haven't been sewing at all this year, I do have a couple things to show...Christmas gifts I made.

My youngest daughter got a doll for Christmas.
Of course, I had to make a couple things to go with the doll.
Or I guess I should say that Santa's elves made them!

And while we were visiting in SK, Mom made me some cozy new slippers.
Thanks Mom!  I love them!
